  •   This past week has been one of many ups and downs.  Grandpa Bender died last Saturday morning.  I was able to come home Tuesday evening.  I spent a lot of time with family.  That was really good.  Here are some pictures of family...Christmas eve some of us went to the Ridge after the program at church.  Some are from at Grandma Benders.

Christmas Day we spent with Dad at the nursing home.  We had a good day.  He was able to open most of the presents by himself and he had some typical Dad comments.    Here are some pictures of that and the visitors we had...

Here are a few pictures of some things Grandpa Bender painted...We will miss him so much!!!  We have been so blessed and enriched by having him in our lives.  I want to thank you all who were praying for us this week, we could feel the prayers.  Grandma continues to amaze me with the strength she is showing...Thank you God for the family You have blessed me with!

  • Mom was telling me last night that I needed to update.  I told her that nothing has happened, and I didn't have anything that was worth telling about, or that people would want to read about.  That changed today...

My boss was doing a tour in my room when another teacher opened the door and said that my boss had someone that wants to see her.  She said, "Is it an emergency?  I'm doing a tour."  The other teacher opened the door a little further and there stood a Police Officer.  My boss told her tour, "I will be right back."  She was gone a few minutes and then the other teacher came back.  She said, "Tonya, you need to go out to the foyer with Annette."  My hands started shaking...what was going on?  Why did the police officer want to talk with me??  What was going on?!  So, I walked out of my room, passing Annette on the way.  I went out to where the officer was and he asked my name.  It turns out, he had a subpoena for me...I have to go to court on Thursday to testify about a child that used to be in my class.  (Later today, I found out that I don't have to go afterall...)

Other than that, nothing has really happened in my life.  Keep praying for dad.  Check out moms site for more current updates.  http://www.xanga.com/richandsharon  Pray for mom and Marsh as well.

  •    What a week!  I went with the church youth group on their trip to Grand Rapids, MI.  We went with an organization called Group Work Camps.  We met at the church on Father's Day at 7:30, loaded up and drove to MI.  We had a lot of fun on the way, there was a lot of laughter, lots of Gerdie (the GPS unit) saying, "Recalculating" but the main point is that we made it to the church safely.  There were 3 other youth groups plus ours at this camp.  Sunday night, we were divided up into our crews for the week.  I was in a crew with 5 other girls that I didn't know.  Our assignment for the week was to go to senior residents and help out at their homes.  The first day we our tasks were to: clean off the roof, level out the backyard by dumping/spreading topsoil around, moving bricks, painting the garage, staining the fence, and gathering brush.  We were able to complete them all.  :)   100_0790 This is my crew.100_0780 100_0777

On Tuesday, we were sent to another ladies home.  We had been told that she was 86.  We didn't know what to expect, but whatever it was, that isn't what we got.    She was a spunky lady.    She had a great sports car and listened to rap music.  We painted her living room, washed windows, washed her blinds and shades, cleaned, and moved furniture.

100_0802 We were there for two days.

On Thursday, we were sent to another ladies house.  We trimmed trees/bushes, cut/pulled out bushes (I am sore!), power washed her house, planted lots of flowers, dug up flower beds, gathered brush and moved bricks.  Thursday evening, our group was in charge of supper.  We were in the midst of making it (taco's) when all the lights went out in the kitchen.  We ended up browning the meat in the dark...it was interesting.  Thank goodness for flashlights.

Tuesday evening we were able to go out as a youth group.  We went to a restaurant and then to a place called Tunnel Park.  We spent sometime at Lake Michigan on the beach.  After that, we went to Brenda and Emily's cousin's house and had a bonfire.  It was a lot of fun getting away and spending time together as a youth group.

Other people from our group went to nursing homes, helped sort shoes and clothes a thrift store, helped out with kids, and helped at a place that recycles older computers.  Here are some other random pictures from the week.

  • Here are some random quotes from my kids...

*"She scared me out of crap!"

*A boy was drawing a picture and telling me what to write as the caption.  He said, "I chased Mason through the forest."  A girl said, "What kind of Mason?"  (We have two Mason's in our class and that was her way of asking which one he meant.)

Ok, so I thought I had more.  Sorry.  :)  I really don't have anything to say...my aunts have been faithfully checking to see if I posted, so I thought I would reward them for their faithfulness.  Wern, it was good talking to you and Dave on Sunday.  :)

Dad is doing better.  He was able to go with his brothers and sisters on a boating/fishing afternoon Saturday.  He actually caught the first fish!  :)  It really tired him out and Sunday was a slow day.
